He works closely with faculty, families, and the Board to ensure the school’s sustainability and integrity. She has presented at conferences in Brazil and Argentina and was recently selected to present at the World Literacy Summit in Oxford, UK, in 2025. -

Growing up in Patagonia, Nico earned a Master’s Degree in Geology from Universidad de Buenos Aires and pursued a PhD in Geosciences in Australia. He has taught in Uruguay, Germany, and Spain, fostering curiosity and intrinsic motivation in students. In 2024, Nico relocated to Punta del Este to join The Garzón School, drawn by the connection to nature and the sense of community. -

Otto’s journey in education began alongside his studies in Fine Arts and Design, where he balanced a thriving creative practice with teaching. In 2017, his deep commitment to education led him to transition into full-time international teaching. Since then, he has gained extensive experience in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and the Cambridge curriculum, where he also serves as an Assessment Specialist. Otto holds teaching certifications from Cambridge University and the University of East London. Tomás holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad de Buenos Aires and a teaching certification for secondary and higher education, complemented by a postgraduate specialisation from the Universidad de San Andrés. With 12 years of experience across public, private, and international schools, he has taught at secondary level and has held school leadership roles. He is passionate about making math, science, and design rich spaces for wonder, critical thinking, and hands-on making. A former youth sports coach, Tomás relocated to Punta del Este four years ago, drawn by nature, community, and purpose-driven work.

In her role as Technical Director, she represents the School before the Administración Nacional de Educación Pública (ANEP), ensuring TGS is fully compliant with national accreditation standards. In her spare time, Natalia enjoys travelling and immersing herself in new cultures and experiences, which once even led to her working as a teacher in Dublin, Ireland! -
Thomas Jackson

Thomas “Tom” Jackson is an experienced educator with over a decade of teaching in Washington (USA). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Middle School Science, a Master’s in STEM Leadership, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. His doctoral research focused on the implementation of Restorative Justice to strengthen school culture and student wellbeing. Before entering education, Tom served in the U.S. Navy, including three years living in Japan. Tom relocated to Uruguay with his husband to join The Garzón School in 2026. He is committed to creating safe, inclusive learning environments where children feel confident to explore, take risks, and grow. -

Bruna boasts more than ten years’ experience supporting pupils at different stages of their educational journey. Born in Rivera, she completed her teacher training at the Universidad de Montevideo. In addition to her work in education, Bruna is a qualified Visual Communication Designer. She thoughtfully integrates design as a tool to enrich and enhance learning experiences, recognising the value of graphic design in creating resources that are accessible, inclusive and relevant. She believes school should be a space where children learn through play and self-expression. Outside the classroom, Bruna has a love for both the Portuguese language and Brazilian culture. -

Talia has worked at a variety of schools in Costa Rica, Panama and the United States. Each one has inspired and molded both her educational and life philosophy. She believes that all humans deserve to know themselves well, understand where food comes from and learn through a constructivist lens. Talia has an undergraduate degree in Latin American Youth, Culture and Education and an M.Ed. in Elementary Education, both from the University of Massachusetts. When not teaching, Talia can be found baking, running, practicing yoga, reading, and exploring Uruguay amongst other introvert-friendly activities. -

Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Jess worked in Vietnam and Peru before relocating to Punta del Este in 2019. She entered education having received a Bachelor's in Social Sciences from the University of Cape Town, and completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) through the University of Nottingham whilst teaching in Peru and Uruguay. Jess believes meaningful learning is dynamic and engaging, and she thoroughly enjoys implementing research-based practice in her classroom to support children in reaching their full potential. In 2024, Jess was accepted into the University of Nottingham School of Education to pursue a Master’s in Education, which she will complete remotely whilst teaching at The Garzón School. -

Cata’s experience includes supporting individuals with disabilities in transitioning to mainstream employment. She is a strong advocate for inclusive environments and equal opportunity, emphasising the equal development of students’ social, emotional, and academic skills. Cata’s relocation to Punta Del Este reflects her desire for nature, balance and community to complement a bright career trajectory.

She earned a scholarship to complete a Master’s in Outdoor Education at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, later working at a Forest School in Galicia (Spain) where she gained hands-on experience in outdoor education. She holds a Bachelor’s in Visual Communication Design and a TESOL Diploma, combining both academic worlds to bring art into the classroom and create educational materials as an illustrator and designer. Gerardo grew up on his family’s farm in rural Costa Rica, where he learned about farming, tree management and animal husbandry. He was inspired by his agriculture teacher in elementary school who taught him how to make garden beds, start seeds and all things agriculture related. Gera has also lived in Panama where he worked with adults with disabilities and the United States where he had a homestead and his own landscaping business. He’s excited to get to know the environment and people of Uruguay and share his love of nature and farming. -
